In January-July 2022, Kazakhstan produced 252.2 thousand tons of nitrogen fertilizers, which is slightly (by 1.2%) less than a year earlier. At the same time, the output of phosphate fertilizers increased immediately by 7.2%, to 126.4 thousand tons, Kazinform reports with reference to energyprom.kz.
The main volume of production of nitrogen fertilizers traditionally fell on the Mangistau region: 222.6 thousand tons, or 88.3% of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Recall that the largest company in the sector, KazAzot JSC, operates here. As expected, Zhambyl region was the leader in the production of phosphate fertilizers: 95.8% of the total output in the sector in the Republic of Kazakhstan, or 121.2 thousand tons. The giant Kazphosphate LLP operates in the region. For the full year 2021, the production of nitrogen fertilizers increased by 15.1%, to 447.3 thousand tons, the production of phosphate fertilizers – by 1.2%, to 198.2 thousand tons. According to the results of January-May, local companies provided demand (sales on the domestic market plus export) for nitrogen fertilizers by 53.6%, against 46% a year earlier. Imports respectively amounted to 46.4% of the resources. 155.8 thousand tons of fertilizers were brought into the country, which is 28.1% less than a year earlier. 307.8 thousand tons of fertilizers were sold on the domestic market, which is 9.2% less than a year ago. Local companies provided the country’s market with phosphorus fertilizers almost completely – by 99.9%. Almost the entire volume was sold on the domestic market: 85.4 thousand tons – 2% more than a year earlier. Exports amounted to 2.5% of the resources: Kazakhstan sent 2.2 thousand tons of fertilizers to foreign markets, plus 31.3% per year. In general, all types of chemical and mineral fertilizers (both nitrogen and phosphorus, and others) from the Republic of Kazakhstan were exported in the first half of 2022, 119.1 thousand tons in the amount of 78.5 million US dollars. In real terms, there was a decline in supplies by 31.7% over the year, but in monetary terms, on the contrary, there was a noticeable increase – by 75.9%. The bulk of exports fell on the CIS countries: 81.5%. Here, Uzbekistan (50.2 thousand tons), Ukraine (24 thousand tons) and Russia (10.1 thousand tons) became the key buyers of Kazakh fertilizers. At the same time, imports of fertilizers exceeded exports by 3.9 times in physical terms and 1.9 times in monetary terms. Since the beginning of the year, 467.5 thousand tons of fertilizers of all types have been delivered to the Republic of Kazakhstan in the amount of 145.8 million US dollars. Kazakhstan imported 99.1% of fertilizers in physical terms from the CIS countries, where Russia became the key supplier (432.5 thousand tons).
