This week witnessed yet another decline in potato prices across Brazilian markets. The average prices of the produce stood at R$ 119.60 per 25 kg sack at wholesale in São Paulo/SP, marking a 6.54% decrease compared to the previous week; at R$ 108.60 per sack in Rio de Janeiro, representing a 9.13% decline, and at R$ 107.79 in Belo Horizonte (BH), a decrease of 4.47%.
The primary reasons behind this trend continue to be increased productivity and a larger area available for harvesting. However, there was significant price fluctuation throughout the week, starting with a decline and then rising mid-week due to Tuesday’s rain in Água Doce/SC (one of the key supplying regions to the market presently), which hindered harvesting activities and reduced supply.
Wholesalers are still commenting on the variation in the quality of potatoes offered, particularly those from southern Minas Gerais, further contributing to the price drop.
