To bolster spud growing in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to set up a center of excellence for potatoes at Kasya in Kushinagar district, which will not only increase the production of potatoes but also heighten the income of farmers.
Agriculture Minister, Surya Pratap Shahi, said that the Potato Centre of Excellence at Kushinagar would conduct research on the quality of potatoes, better varieties and new varieties for industrial use, and improved seed, The Pioneer wrote.
In addition, schemes will also be made to protect potatoes from diseases. Along with this, farmers will be taught new ways of potato cultivation in the center of excellence.
Workshops would also be organized from time to time at the center of excellence, in which farmers would be able to discuss issues faced by them with agricultural experts and find out their solutions.
Growers would also be able to get information about getting maximum production by using minimum water in agriculture.
