Last week, The Establishment Brewing Company announced the release of a new beer in support of ‘Grow Calgary‘, Canada’s largest urban community farm and a nonprofit organization that grows fresh produce for social agencies in Calgary with food access programs.
Establishment Brewing says in a Tweet: “This is our way of sticking it to the yam! We kid, but if you can’t count on small fries like us to roast self-proclaimed kings, what can you count on?” Its new beer, called “This Spud’s For You“, is an American lager – said to be a style of beer made famous by multinational beer companies, brewed with a higher sugar concentration and then diluted with water.
In its promotional campaign, the company use the slogan “Taters. But not for tots’. This Spud’s For You lager is available now at the Establishment retail shop and online store.
In April of this year, Nicola MacLeod of CBC News reported that operators of Holy Whale Brewery in New Brunswick, Peter and Jeff Grandy, decided to brew a special beer for every province. Their P.E.I.-themed beer is, of course, a beer brewed with P.E.I. potatoes.
“It’s kind of a goofy beer, but at the same time, the potatoes do add a little bit of a dimension,” said Jeff Grandy. “It’s very starchy and sugary, so it does ferment and makes it a little bit more crisp.” The beer is a traditional wheat beer with potatoes added to the mash.
