In Peru, government initiatives are vital to supporting the agricultural sector, and recent efforts in Santiago de Chuco exemplify this commitment. Steps are being taken to strengthen agricultural infrastructure through the construction of 18 reservoirs under the auspices of the Economic Development Authority. These efforts benefit the Association of Agricultural Producers, Artisans and Tourism Entrepreneurs Zaile Bajo, located in the heart of Kalipua.
Having won the Procompite 2023 competition, this association, under the leadership of the administration of Mayor Víctor Luján Chero, implemented the business plan “Improving the production and marketing of potatoes.” The main goal is not only to ensure the supply of high-quality products, but also to establish a potato processing plant in the region, which will expand the economic opportunities of the Libertad province in the Andes.
Peru’s agricultural landscape, especially potato production, is experiencing significant growth thanks to sustained government support. Initiatives such as the construction of reservoirs in Santiago de Chuco represent a commitment to modernizing infrastructure and empowering local agricultural communities. As efforts continue to unfold, the trajectory points to increased productivity, economic growth and sustainable development in the region.
