Prepare for a potato extravaganza at the upcoming North Carolina Potato Festival, where a whopping 2,000 lbs. of French fries will be available for eager attendees!
Returning to Elizabeth City this weekend, the North Carolina Potato Festival is a vibrant celebration of the region’s rich agricultural heritage, as highlighted by organizer Deborah Malenfant.
From May 17 to 19, potato enthusiasts can indulge in a variety of spud-centric delights at Mariners’ Wharf Park. In addition to an array of potato-themed snacks, the festival will boast a beer & wine garden, thrilling rides, and opportunities for shopping at diverse vendors.
According to the festival’s website, visitors can look forward to a plethora of attractions, including a midway with exciting rides and games, a bustling street fair with diverse vendors and delectable food options, live music performances on the main stage, potato-themed activities, a captivating farm and tractor show, a lively cornhole tournament, an impressive auto and bike show, complimentary french fries, and a bounty of family-friendly entertainment.
Festival-goers can also test their skills in the National Potato Peeling Contest, where participants will be judged not only on speed but also on precision. The victor will have the chance to select a nonprofit organization to receive a $250 donation.
“We peel around 400 pounds of potatoes during the contest, followed by serving up 2,000 pounds of complimentary French fries on Saturday,” shared Malenfant.
Organizers extend a warm invitation to individuals of all ages to join in the festive spirit at this free three-day event, promising an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
