Agricultural group Syngenta launches Karate 0.4% GR, a new product to control wireworms in potatoes and corn. The granulate was recently approved by the Crop Protection and Biocide Authorization Board.
When growing potatoes, there are various options for dealing with wireworms. Pellets give the first control in the spring when the wireworms appear shortly after planting. For potatoes, according to Syngenta, the use of Nematorine is preferred, since this agent has the best longitudinal action, fights nematodes and has a side effect against lice.
Karate 0.4% GH only works against wireworms. The advantage is that there is no need to consider a period of at least 120 days between stems and leaf death. For nematorin, due to the risk of residue formation, it is recommended to wait at least 120 days between stems and leaf death. For early potatoes or seed potatoes where the top measure is used for consumption, this term is not always possible.
heavy pollution
For corn cultivation, Karate 0.4% GH is particularly suitable in cases where there is a strong infestation with wireworms and seed treatment is not always sufficient. In addition, the product does not contain phosphate fertilizers. While the fertilizer provides smoother crop growth, the only Force Evo granulate available cannot be used in corn plots where phosphate deficiency plays a role, Syngenta says.

Karate 0.4% GH contains the active ingredient lambda-cyhalothrin and is used at a dosage of 15 kg per hectare for row application when sowing corn or planting potatoes. The tool can be used once per cultivation cycle. Application in groundwater protection zones is not allowed.
