In 2021, 333.2 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested from an area of 22.2 thousand hectares in the Irkutsk region, the yield was 148 centners per hectare, the territorial department of state statistics reports.
The main producers of potatoes are personal subsidiary plots of the population, which own 81% of the potato fields of the region. But the population from year to year reduces the area under potatoes. And agricultural organizations and farms this year increased the planting of potatoes by a third. For the first time, potatoes were planted by agricultural organizations of the Angarsk, Ziminsky, Alarsky districts and farmers of the Zalarinsky district. Leadership in growing potatoes, as before, belongs to the farmers of the Irkutsk and Usolsky districts, whose share in the regional potato plantations is 72%.
Unlike many other types of agricultural products, the Angara region mainly provides itself with potatoes. The level of self-sufficiency of the region in different years is 90-100%.
As REGNUM reported, in the Irkutsk region, as of mid-August 2022, potatoes were harvested on an area of 10 hectares, the gross harvest amounted to 201.4 tons.
