Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita held an official meeting with her Qatari counterpart Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, the press service of the Moldovan government reports.
The parties discussed the difficult situation in the region in the context of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, as well as the need for Moldova’s comprehensive support.
“The head of government stressed that, despite the difficulties, attracting foreign direct investment into the national economy remains a priority goal, the achievement of which will ensure stability and the resumption of development in all areas,” the press service said in a statement.
During the talks, issues related to the energy sector of Moldova and cooperation to strengthen the country’s energy security were discussed, including through the creation of strategic reserves, investing in renewable energy sources and diversifying access to various energy sources in the long term.
“Natalia Gavrilitsa expressed admiration for Qatar’s achievements in strengthening food security over the past few years,” the press service said.
The officials agreed on cooperation in the agri-food sector, part of which will be the exchange of experience and the stimulation of cooperation from the private sector.
Also during the meeting, the parties signed two documents: an agreement on the abolition of short-term visas for holders of ordinary passports and an agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Gavrilitsa congratulated her colleague on the significant economic progress achieved by Qatar and wished her success in organizing the first World Cup in the Arab state, which will be held at the end of 2022.
The official visit of the Moldovan delegation takes place within the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar.
