In Kyzylorda, potatoes in the markets and shops cost from 160 to 250 tenge per kilogram, according to the staff correspondent of KazakhZerno.kz. These are imported potatoes from Saryagash.
“It’s delicious and we sell it cheaply,” says Asiya, a vegetable seller at the Sultan market. – The local will be in the fall, but it is not sold for long and it is not grown much. In winter, we mainly sell Pavlodar potatoes, sometimes we sell Pakistani, Kyrgyz potatoes.
This winter there were days when the price of potatoes exceeded 500 tenge per kilogram.
Imported potatoes in the markets
According to the specialists of the regional department of agriculture and land relations, potatoes are cultivated in the fields only by private traders with small plots. There is no industrial production in the region. In the past, several farms have taken it on, but they have grown only one or two crops and abandoned the business. Potato growers talked about many problems in potato growing. But one of the most important is that there are no vegetable stores for storing crops. Potatoes in our region are planted along the way, but not purposefully. There are no large or small storage facilities, only old warehouses in regional centers from Soviet times, which are technically outdated. For several years in a row, the stabilization fund of Baikonyr SEC JSC has been announcing that it is ready to purchase locally produced potatoes. But there are no volunteers from local farmers yet.
