In the bucolic setting of PEI, where agriculture is not just an industry but a way of life, the “Fill Your Boots” event has become a cherished tradition. This year, the collaboration between G Visser and Sons, Monaghan Farms, Spud Isle Farms, and the PEI Potato Board once again brought the community together for a day of generosity and celebration.
Nearly 900 attendees participated in this year’s “Fill Your Boots” event, gathering thousands of pounds of free potatoes generously provided by local farms.
Contributions to the local food bank totaled over CAD 3200 (USD 2400), demonstrating the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.
G Visser and Sons, the pioneers behind the initiative, have hosted four such events since the idea’s inception in 2022, showcasing their dedication to giving back to the community.
The “Fill Your Boots” event not only provided Islanders with free potatoes but also served as a platform for fostering connections between farms and the local community. Through acts of generosity and support for charitable causes, events like these highlight the invaluable role that agriculture plays in strengthening community ties. As Islanders continue to come together in the spirit of giving, the bonds between farmers, agronomists, agricultural engineers, and the broader community are strengthened, ensuring a brighter and more connected future for all.
