Leonid Mikhailin, a farmer from the Uvat district, receives up to 700 tons of potatoes of three varieties from 50 hectares. So that the harsh northern climate with its short summer does not affect productivity, it is necessary to follow a certain technology and apply mineral fertilizers, he believes.
The professional agronomist took up potato cultivation in 2008, organized LENNY LLC. I took proven varieties as a basis: “Gala”, “Scarlet”, “Rozara”.
Over time, the business executive realized that in addition to planting, cultivating crops, it is important to store finished products. This is how wooden boxes appeared at the enterprise. In them, potatoes remain almost 100% intact until planting.
In the upcoming sowing campaign on 10 hectares, the workers will also sow beets.
“Beetroot was sown before, but in 2019 they suffered heavy losses and abandoned it. Now the situation is more or less recovering, so we also bought beet seeds. By the way, they are domestic. But as for chemical protection drugs, they are all imported,” – says Leonid Mikhailin.
Seven pieces of equipment, mostly “Belarus”, are ready to go into the field, this was shown by a traditional technical inspection. For the period of sowing and harvesting campaigns, the farmer provides jobs for 10 local residents.
