The French potato research and development specialist, Germicopa, has sealed a strategic deal with Agroplant S.A. in Argentina, establishing the latter as the exclusive representative for Germicopa’s potato varieties. This collaboration encompasses the organization of production, promotion, and commercialization of Germicopa’s innovations in the Argentine potato sector.

Latest Developments:

New Varieties: Germicopa’s noteworthy varieties, including PUNCHY and TILBURY for chips, KELLY for white-fleshed fries, and the successful NOHA with its shiny skin, are set to dominate the regional market. These varieties bring diverse options for farmers and respond to consumer preferences.

Agroplant’s Perspective: Agroplant, after five years of testing Germicopa’s varieties, sees this agreement as a culmination of their dedication. Carlos Martino, Agroplant’s director, emphasizes the company’s commitment to being integral to every potato on Argentine tables. The partnership aligns with their vision of commercializing and promoting exclusive varieties.

Market Opportunities: Both companies recognize the real opportunities in the Argentine market and neighboring countries. Agroplant expresses confidence in Germicopa’s genetic improvement program, leveraging the state-of-the-art facilities of its parent company, Florimond Desprez, specialized in cereal and beet varieties.

Germicopa’s exclusive representation agreement with Agroplant marks a significant step towards introducing innovative potato varieties in Argentina. This partnership not only strengthens Germicopa’s presence in the region but also reflects the mutual confidence in the potential of the Argentine potato market. With new and promising varieties taking center stage, the collaboration is poised to reshape the potato landscape.
