The Georgian government has approved amendments to the Preferential Agro-Credit project, which provides targeted loans to farmers at a low rate, the Rural Development Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture is actively working on the development of agriculture and is implementing programs to help farmers for this. One of the largest is the “Preferential Agrocredit”, which has been implemented in the country since March 27, 2013.
According to the changes, farmers will be able to buy an agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle (agrodrone) and weather stations for an agricultural facility on a preferential agricultural loan.
According to the agency, we are talking about agricultural drones that will perform the function of spraying, with the function of scanning for agronomic purposes.
In addition, with the help of a weather station in their own farms, farmers will be able to predict the climate, prevent threats caused by pests and diseases, and collect the necessary data for planning various agricultural activities.
In the case of the purchase of agricultural drones and the arrangement of weather stations, the state will finance the farmer for 48 months with a loan of 11% per annum. The loan amount is from 20 thousand lari to 1.5 million lari.
The agency notes that thanks to the use of “smart” agricultural technologies and approaches, products made in Georgia can become highly competitive both on the local and international markets.
The amount of agricultural loans issued in Georgia exceeded 160 million lari >>
The main objectives of the “Preferential Agrocredit” are to improve the production processes of primary production, processing and storage-marketing in agriculture by providing farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs with cheap, long-term and affordable funds.
Over the nine years of its existence, a number of changes have been made to the project, based on the needs of those existing in the industry.
