Farmers in the UK warn that the dry weather could affect some of their crops seriously

Farmers in the UK are warning about the crops of potatoes, onions, carrots, and lettuce due to the dry weather. As Maria Daisy reports for Nokia News, conditions are having an impact on already planted crops, which is made worse by government restrictions on irrigation licenses meant to protect the water supply.

In addition to planting less for future winter vegetable harvests, the lack of rain is likely to result in smaller yields over the coming months. Tom Bradshaw, the National Farmers’ Union’s deputy president, cautioned that some crops were “writing the book on the wall” because water had become a “critical issue.”

Chief executive of the British Growers Association Jack Ward added that yields were “severely curtailed” because crops in the ground were “running short of water because irrigation licenses have been restricted or shut down completely.”
