The situation is a little calmer only with grain, said Natalya Shashlova, an independent expert of Rosstat, the former head of the department for agricultural and environmental statistics.
The favorable forecast for the harvest in 2022 is in conflict with the current opportunities for agricultural organizations and farmers to keep products in warehouses. In this regard, a large number of spoiled products may become a problem, Natalia Shashlova, an independent expert of Rosstat, the former head of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Statistics, told TASS.
“We have very little information to now understand whether there will be enough resources to store this year’s harvest, or something needs to be done to save what has already been harvested. But it is already clear that there may be a threat that a significant part of the products it will just go bad – they didn’t plan that there would be no export. At the same time, the forecast for the harvest this year is very favorable. Everyone is working on it. If there are no cataclysms, there will be a lot of harvest,” she said.
According to Shashlova, the situation is a little calmer only with grain – buyers have huge warehouses to store it. But what to do with the rest of the farmers’ products remains to be seen.
“When we prepare for the 2026 agricultural census, we will definitely take into account that it is necessary to provide for the collection of these indicators, including how many storage facilities our farmers have. Now we have not collected them, because such a question has never been raised,” she concluded she is.
The agricultural micro-census took place in Russia from August 1 to August 30, 2021. The purpose of the observation is to assess the resource base and potential of the country’s agricultural sector, as well as structural changes in agriculture. Rosstat is responsible for the preparation and conduct of the micro-census. The results of the census should be published before the end of the fourth quarter of 2022.
