Empowering Bumthang Farmers through Potato Marketing Innovation in Bhutan

A campaign focusing on potato marketing and auctioning awareness was held in Bumthang Dzongkhag, Bhutan. This initiative was a collaborative effort between FCBL, the Royal Securities Exchange of Bhutan Limited, and the Department of Agricultural Marketing & Cooperatives.

The event was overseen by Dasho Dzongdag and attended by Dzongkhag Tshogdue Thrizin, Gups, Gewog officials, and Dzongkhag agriculture officials. The main objectives of the campaign were:

  • Educating officials on the importance of timely potato arrivals to ensure fair prices.
  • Setting up auction timelines for each district to streamline the process.
  • Spreading awareness about the negative impacts of hoarding potatoes.
  • Encouraging farmers to deliver only cured potatoes to auction yards to uphold quality standards.
  • Providing farmers with valuable information to help them make informed marketing decisions.
  • Showcasing the advantages of utilizing the online auction platform for trading.

FCBL extended gratitude to the Dzongkhag and Gewogs for their continuous support, as well as to Dasho Dzongdag, Gewog Thrizins, and all participants for their cooperation throughout the campaign.
