TaiMei Potato Industry Ltd, a Chinese potato processor belonging to Lamb Weston, signed an agreement with American Lorain Corporation, to produce the Lorain brand of French fries in China.
“We all find it so exciting to work with TaiMei Potato in China. American Lorain has been working on the potato product segment for many years. We have maintained substantial resources and experience, and we are very confident with TaiMei Potato becoming our OEM factory and providing us with high-quality products,” said Si Chen, Chairman and CEO of American Lorain.
Representatives for American Lorain Corporation, which produces frozen and convenience foods, said that last year they decided to diversify the categories of potato products available in their portfolio and to procure potatoes in China, labeled with the Lorain brand.
Lamb Weston acquired TaiMei Potato in 2014 and the Chinese potato processor now has one of the most advanced production lines in the country, capable of producing 10 tons of fries per hour.
“American Lorain will have TaiMei Potato manufacture about 2000 tons of regular French fries at this time. But we do see more potential opportunities in the future for both companies. We believe this cooperation would […] create more opportunities to expand Lorain branded products overseas,” said Si Chen.
