In a notable agricultural feat, Omsk specialists have successfully harvested an impressive 398 thousand tons of potatoes in 2023. This surge represents a remarkable increase of almost 15% compared to the previous year, showcasing the resilience and productivity of the region’s farming practices.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Production’s press service highlighted the substantial growth, stating, “Potato production has surged by nearly 13% compared to the previous year, pushing the region’s self-sufficiency level to 112%.”
This potato harvest stands as a record-breaking accomplishment for Omsk, marking the highest yield since 2018. The region faced lower yields in 2019 and 2020, with less than 300 thousand tons harvested. In 2021, the yield increased to 321 thousand tons, followed by 352 thousand tons in 2022.
Amidst the ongoing harvest of oilseeds, with 90% of the areas already cleared, personal subsidiary farms have stockpiled 603.5 thousand tons of hay, a 6.5% increase from 2022. Additionally, agricultural producers successfully harvested 2.1 million hectares of cereals and legumes, meeting 100% of the plan. The completion of spring wheat harvesting, covering 1.4 million hectares, resulted in a yield of 1 million tons.
