In a groundbreaking move, Branston, a leading name in the agricultural sector, has announced the opening of a state-of-the-art mashed potato production facility. This facility marks a significant leap forward in the company’s endeavors, expanding its capacity and ensuring long-term sustainability. The facility, set to launch in the spring of 2024, comes as a response to the growing demand for prepared potatoes, a trend observed over the years.
Wayne Mansfield, the manager of mash production at Branston, emphasized the need for specialized equipment and the right potatoes to produce high-quality mashed potatoes consistently. He explained that after meticulous planning and thorough research, construction began earlier this year. The company aims for the facility to be commissioned by December, ready for the technical validation of its product range in early 2024.
The plant is equipped with cutting-edge technology, boasting two primary lines capable of producing 14 distinct items. From topped jacket potatoes to specialty root vegetable combinations and ready-to-eat mash, the facility promises a diverse range of products. Utilizing a 2 km spiral chiller, steam peeling, and frying processes, the facility is expected to yield an impressive 23 million mashed potato packets in its inaugural year of operation.
What sets this facility apart is its emphasis on efficiency and sustainability. By bringing the entire production process in-house, Branston ensures optimal utilization of every potato, using the right varieties for each product. This approach not only enhances the quality of the consumer product but also contributes to a more sustainable supply chain.
Jim Windle, Group Managing Director of Branston, expressed his excitement about the venture and its positive impact on the community. The new facility is set to create 90 specialized job opportunities, ranging from engineers and machine technicians to line operatives and section managers, enhancing the region’s employment landscape.
Branston’s innovative mashed potato production facility represents a significant stride towards a more efficient, sustainable, and consumer-focused agricultural industry. As it pioneers this venture, Branston sets a precedent for the future of mashed potato production, showcasing the potential for technological advancements and sustainable practices in agriculture.
