This year, the area occupied by potato planting in farms of all categories amounted to just over 10 thousand hectares. Households remain the main producers of potatoes, they account for 69%, or about 7 thousand hectares of all plantings. The remaining plantings were carried out in agricultural organizations and farms.
According to preliminary results, almost 183 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested, including about 74 thousand tons in agricultural organizations and peasant (farm) enterprises. The average potato yield in these categories of farms was 233.3 c/ha. The farms of the Velikoustyugsky district (335.6 centners/ha) achieved the highest yield, and the leaders were Tarnogsky (296.3 centners/ha) and Ustyuzhensky (260.7 centners/ha) regions.
The absolute leader in potato production is still the Ustyuzhensky district, where 45.5 thousand tons were harvested from an area of 1.7 thousand hectares – more than 60% of the harvested crop in agricultural organizations and farms. The leader is followed by such municipalities as the Vologda region, where 7.3 thousand hectares of potatoes were harvested from an area of 433 hectares, and the Sokolsky region, where 6.8 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested from an area of 310 hectares.
“In total, more than 60 varieties of potatoes were planted this year, different in terms of ripening, as well as in the direction of use (table and technical), including 42 varieties for seed purposes. Such a large number of varieties is connected with the security of the need for various varieties of potatoes for the population of the region and for the needs of the southern regions,” said Deputy Governor of the region Mikhail Glazkov.
All the potatoes harvested in the Vologda region have been put in storage. Mass implementation will not begin until January of the new year. In addition to their settlements, Vologda farmers sell marketable potatoes to the Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Leningrad, and Moscow regions.
Seven farms that are included in the register of seed farms of the Russian Federation, in the Vologda, Syamzhensky and Ustyuzhensky districts, carry out seed potato cultivation. This year, elite and original potato plantings amounted to 722 hectares. High-quality seed potatoes are grown for the population of the region and for deliveries to the southern regions: Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Astrakhan, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg, Rostov Regions and for other regions of Russia.
