Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank. The parties adopted a program for financing large projects in Uzbekistan.
A separate program providing for financing of major projects worth $1.6 billion was adopted during the talks between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Muhammad bin Suleiman Al Jassir.
The meeting was held within the framework of the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia. As the press service of the head of state notes, this will be an important step towards bringing relations with the IDB to a qualitatively new level and adopting a country cooperation program for 2023-2026.
“The importance of the soonest organization of the activities of a full-fledged representative office of the Bank in Tashkent, the introduction of new financing instruments was noted,” the message says.
An exchange of views took place on issues of cooperation in regional transport infrastructure projects, environmental programs in the Aral Sea region, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and its socio-economic recovery with the support of a separate IDB trust fund.
An agreement was reached to consider the timing of the next meeting of the Arab Coordination Group, headed by the Bank and including the leading financial institutions of the Islamic world, in Tashkent, the report said.
As noted, currently in Uzbekistan, together with the IDB, projects are being implemented to modernize the housing and communal infrastructure, develop rural areas, healthcare, education, water management, entrepreneurship and others in general for 1.2 billion dollars.
