Northwest Region Potato Stocks on June 1, 2022, Totaled 1.75m MT. Potato stocks in Idaho on June 1, 2022, totaled 1.06m metric tons (MT). The disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 5.48m MT.
On June 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 152,407 MT. In the same state, the total spud disappearance to date was 1.18m MT. In Washington, on June 1 potato stocks totaled 533,424 MT. Disappearance to date totaled 4.2m MT.
Nationally, the major potato States held 2.74m MT in the storage on June 1, 2022, down 4% from June 1, 2021. Potatoes in storage accounted for 13% of the US’s 2021 production, the same as a year earlier. The indicated potato disappearance, at 18.08m MT, was down 2% from the same period last year. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 1.17m MT, was 5% higher than the same time last year.
Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon used 3.64m MT of potatoes for the season, down 2% from June 1, 2021. In Washington and other Oregon counties, 4.31m MT of potatoes had been used by processors for the season, up 9% from the previous year. Processors in the eight States used 9.9m MT of potatoes for the season, up 4% from June 2021.
