Kanaan and Elea conducted a test project using an Elea PEF Advantage system to assess the impact of PEF on product yield and quality. Following successful testing, a line upgrade was recently completed, and a cutting-edge Elea PEF Advantage B1 system was installed.
“The cooperation with Elea has been very fruitful. Product quality is of high importance to us, that´s why we have invested in an Elea PEF system. We have seen several PEF-induced benefits in our potato chips processing line, leading to higher product quality and better crunch. The improved cutting results in an oil uptake reduction of 3 %,” Tomislav Lukacevic, project manager at Kanaan said.
Elea’s engineering manager, Jimmy Kinsella, added that his company is proud to work with Kanaan and that the collaboration has been very professional, from early-stage discussions to installation and startup.
Kanaan is Croatia´s largest snack products manufacturer, producing hand-cooked chips, popcorn, corn flips, rice snack, popcorn snack as well as potato chips. The company has been established in 1990 by its owner and director Zvonko Popović.
Elea has developed a small footprint, all-in-one design for potato and vegetable chips processing with treatment capacities from 1 to 7.5 tons/hour. For larger-scale processing continuous systems with capacities up to 100 tons/hour are available. PEF benefits for the potato chips industry include better cutting quality and yield, reduced frying time and temperature as well as a reduced oil uptake.
