Many Ponazyrevtsy remember how in their school years they were sent “for potatoes”: to help local state farms in harvesting. Of the ten buckets of vegetables collected, one went to an educational institution. Such “bartering” contributed to lowering the cost of school meals.
But it is not in vain that they say that everything new is a well-forgotten old. The governor of the Kostroma region, Sergei Sitnikov, set the task of maximizing the transition of educational institutions to the products of local agricultural producers several years ago.
This year, in accordance with the main directions of development that the head of the region determined in the agrarian sector, the Kostroma region is taking additional measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of social institutions with vegetables and potatoes: a system of advance payments for farmers for future deliveries of agricultural products has been introduced.
Another measure to support the development of potato growing was assistance to social institutions with the purchase of seed material.
The Ponazyrevsky municipal district purchased four tons of seed potatoes of the Gala and Breeze varieties from the Agrokostroma agricultural enterprise. 95 percent of its cost was compensated by the regional budget.
Oleg Matantsev, head of the SPSK Start, helped prepare the ground for planting.
“Educational institutions have been allocated four hectares of land near the village of Gorlovo for planting,” says Inna Podshivalova, head of the department of education, culture, youth, sports and tourism of the administration of the Ponazyrevsky district. – The planting of potatoes, which is planned this week, will be provided by employees, teachers and students of the senior classes of the Khmelevskaya basic, Ponazyrevskaya and Poldnevitskaya secondary schools, educators of the Ponazyrevskaya kindergarten.
