Spring-2022 in most regions of Russia turned out to be late and rather capricious: the long-awaited warmth in the Volga region, for example, in the middle of April suddenly gave way to a sharp cold snap, and snow fell on the fields. In such conditions it is very difficult to make plans for landing, but our readers still tried to do it, for which we are very grateful to them.
So, we bring to your attention the results of survey, which was conducted among readers mobile application of the magazine “Potato System”. We asked farmers to answer the question: “When do they plan to start planting potatoes this season?”.
The survey was launched in March, and by this time planting work was already underway in some farms of our large country.
So, in one of the farms of the Stavropol Territory, potato planting began on March 3 (in total, they plan to grow potatoes there on an area of 100 hectares), in the second – from the same region – on March 21 (20 hectares are allocated for potatoes), in The third (Astrakhan region) – March 30 (980 hectares under potatoes).
Another farm – located on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria – began planting on April 12. This crop will be grown here on an area of 150 hectares.
Now let’s turn to the answers of the enterprises that shared their plans with us. To begin with, the nearest ones.
Just a few days ago – on April 20 – potato planting will begin in the Bryansk region. In the economy of our respondent, 350 hectares have been allocated for this crop this year.
On April 22, an agricultural enterprise from Primorsky Krai is going to start planting potatoes. 80 hectares will be allocated for potatoes on the farm.
On April 25 four farms were chosen to start work at once: planting will begin in Smolensk (400 hectares under potatoes), Tambov (90 hectares under potatoes), Omsk (550 hectares under potatoes) and Astrakhan (4 hectares under potatoes) regions.
The rest of the participants in our survey believe that the optimal conditions for planting potatoes in their regions this season will develop no earlier than May.
On May 5, work is scheduled to start on farms located in the Smolensk region (50 hectares under potatoes) and the Krasnoyarsk Territory (850 hectares under potatoes).
On May 9, agricultural producers from the Novgorod region (70 hectares under potatoes) will enter the field. Following them – On May 10 – planting will begin in the Nizhny Novgorod region (450 hectares under potatoes), as well as in Karelia (60 hectares under potatoes), Kirov (106 hectares under potatoes) and Yaroslavl (80 hectares under potatoes) regions.
On May 11, planting starts on the farm from the Sverdlovsk region (150 hectares under potatoes). The day after this date – May 12 – the baton will be taken in another Novgorod enterprise (60 hectares under potatoes).
No earlier than mid-May, they are going to start work on the farms of other participants in our survey from Leningrad (150 hectares under potatoes) and Novgorod (30 hectares under potatoes) regions.
On May 18, an agricultural producer from the Chelyabinsk region (10 hectares under potatoes) postpones the start of planting.
The latest date for the start of work – May 23 – was named by a representative of the farm from the Yaroslavl region. The company allocates 150 hectares for growing crops this season.
