SEED, representative in Spain of the producer EUROPLANT, presents a catalog of sustainable potato varieties, adapted to current needs. There are 17 varieties that require a smaller contribution of inputs to carry out their development. With direct benefits such as economic savings and reduction in environmental impact.
The current 2021-22 planting potato campaign is being characterized by high uncertainty, which goes far beyond what is usually normal in this type of crop. The great pressure on prices, in particular for mineral fertilizers, fuel and other production factors, has aggravated the cost of potato production, seriously increasing its risk (which is usually already considerable).
The spirit of sustainability of EUROPLANT is always present in its work of developing new varieties of potatoes, orienting its search towards more sustainable solutions. It prioritizes its objectives in (1) reducing the impact of cultivation costs; (2) reducing the nutritional needs of varieties; and (3) the search for greater efficiency in the use of nutrients, through varieties that naturally have more resistance to diseases and adverse factors.
Following this line, and to face these challenges, EUROPLANT, through the SEED company in Spain, presents to the market a program of 17 LOW-INPUT varieties, with a high efficiency at the level of nutrient absorption, which is achieved effectively and considerably reduce the fertilizer needs of the crop.
