Instead of his traditional Pieper competition, Harry Schreuder of arable farm Harrys Farm in Swifterbant, Flevoland, is organizing a Pieper quiz this year.
For ten years in a row, the arable farmer has had participants in his Pieper competition guess what quantity of potatoes he still has in his barn when delivered. Before the last loads are collected, Schreuder takes photos of the potatoes in storage and distributes them via social media.
Participants in the competition, who can best estimate the number of tonnes still to be delivered, can look forward to attractive prizes. In addition to a cash prize, the winner also receives a body warmer from Harrys Farm. Every year, several hundred participants at home and abroad take a gamble when Schreuder announces his competition again.
Especially for the tenth edition
This year, the Flevoland arable farmer wants to organize a Pieperquiz, especially for the tenth edition, instead of a Pieper competition. The intention is that candidates answer questions in which the pager is central. The quiz will take place online on Wednesday evening 26 May. Schreuder writes on his website that the number of participants is limited to fifty and that registration is still possible.
The Pieper Competition: all editions in a row
In 2012 they could participate for the first time in the Harrysfarm Pieper competition. It started as a playful action but has since become an annually recurring phenomenon.
Every year when the potatoes are delivered, the questions always arise: “Can the potatoes be put on the truck or not? Should we order another truck or not? ” In the end, there is still a small pile of potatoes that we are sure can put on a truck. But how much is there? Even if you are standing with the heap of potatoes in real life, it is still difficult to estimate. So I took a picture, tweeted it and asked the followers what they estimate.
9th edition of the Pieper Competition
Anna de Jonge, farmer’s daughter from Zeewolde, is this year’s winner of the ninth edition of the Harrysfarm Pieper competition. At the age of 20, she is the youngest participant to have won the Pieper competition. Last year she also participated and finished 20th. By looking very closely at the photos of the older editions of the Pieper competition, she came so close this year.
She guessed 131,000 kg and was wrong by 1080 kg. Congratulations on winning the body warmer and the gift voucher worth 150 euros sponsored by Omnivent.
The recommended weight was 132,080 kg.
