According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), global food imports will reach $2 trillion in a month and a half. This figure is 1,8% more than in 2022. The document says that most of the increase is accounted for by fruits, vegetables, beverages and sugar.
At the same time, food purchases are expected to decrease by 11% in low-income countries. And in physical terms, world imports, according to experts, will decrease.
The FAO notes that extreme weather events, increasing geopolitical tensions and political changes pose risks to global food production systems. In the future, this may disrupt the balance of supply and demand, worsen the prospects for global food security.
