On March 5–6, 2025, the city of Cheboksary, capital of Chuvashia, hosted the XVII Interregional Agricultural Exhibition, an event that once again proved to be a major gathering for professionals, farmers, and gardening enthusiasts alike. According to the organizers, more than 12,000 visitors attended the event, making it one of the largest sector-specific forums in Russia.
A highlight of the exhibition, as in previous years, was the seed material fair, where this year a record-breaking 55 tons of seed potatoes were sold. These potatoes represented 19 different varieties, showcasing the increasing diversity and quality of Russian breeding efforts. According to Sergey Artamonov, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Chuvashia, the quality of the seed stock improves each year, with a noticeable rise in the share of varieties developed through domestic breeding programs.
The event also witnessed the signing of a tripartite agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture of Chuvashia, Technograd Trading House LLC, and Avant LLC. This strategic cooperation aims to further strengthen local agricultural production and expand the distribution of high-quality seed materials across the region and beyond.
The broader seed potato market is experiencing steady global growth. According to recent data from Research and Markets (2024), the global seed potato market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2024 to 2030. Russia, with its significant agricultural base and growing investments in breeding and seed quality, is positioning itself as a key player in meeting both domestic and export demands.
Support from regional leaders, such as Chuvashia’s Head Oleg Nikolaev, has played an important role in nurturing the sector. Focused initiatives have been implemented to encourage local breeders and improve plant health certification processes, contributing to higher trust among farmers and buyers.
The XVII Interregional Agricultural Exhibition in Chuvashia demonstrated not just strong market interest but also the rising quality of Russian seed potato production. With record-breaking sales and new collaborative agreements, Russian agriculture is steadily reinforcing its position both nationally and internationally. Events like these are critical platforms for showcasing innovation, building trust, and driving the sector’s future growth.
