Title: Bridging Standards: Dutch Potato Certification Training in Kazakhstan

In a recent development reported by Jan Koning, Senior Potato Inspector at st. NAK, a significant step towards enhancing potato certification processes took place. Nurgul Raissova and Arshat Rakhmetov from Kazakhstan underwent an intensive training session on certifying seed potatoes during their visit to NAK last week.

This training marked a continuation of Jan Koning’s previous visits to Kazakhstan, aiming to align practices with Dutch standards. Under the supervision of esteemed colleagues Hinry, Tom, Jaap, and Ad, the trainees learned the intricacies of applying Dutch norms. Simultaneously, Jan Koning, along with them, assessed potatoes based on Kazakhstani standards, revealing differences that sparked insightful discussions and learning moments.

The week proved to be a success, with Nurgul and Arshat making significant progress, culminating in the awarding of a certification diploma. The hope now rests on a positive decision from the Kazakhstani parliament in December, paving the way for the establishment of an independent inspection service in Kazakhstan. Fingers crossed for a favorable outcome!
