Hans Huistra Appointed as CEO of Royal HZPC Group

New Leadership to Steer Potato Breeder’s Global Mission for Sustainable Food Supply

Royal HZPC Group, a leading global potato breeder, has announced the appointment of Hans Huistra as its new CEO. Bringing nearly 30 years of leadership experience, Huistra will guide the organization through its mission to contribute to the world’s growing food needs.

Huistra, born in Joure in 1968, joins Royal HZPC Group after holding senior positions at major companies such as Unilever, Friesland Campina, Hero, and Fonterra. His extensive experience spans across Europe, Asia, America, and Africa, with a focus on the agricultural and food sectors. His strong connections with growers and deep understanding of international markets make him a valuable leader for the company.

Huistra expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, emphasizing the importance of collaboration: “I look forward to meeting customers, growers, colleagues, and other partners in the coming period. Together, we will work to make the greatest contribution possible to feed the growing world population.”

As Huistra steps into this pivotal role, Royal HZPC Group also recognizes the contributions of its outgoing CEO, Gerard Backx, who led the company for 23 years. Backx has been instrumental in advancing the global food supply through his dedication to potato breeding and agriculture. Although he is stepping down, Backx will continue to share his expertise during the transition period, including his participation in the upcoming HZPC and STET Potato Days in November 2024.

Royal HZPC Group looks forward to a seamless leadership transition and anticipates fresh insights under Huistra’s guidance, while continuing to honor the legacy of innovation and dedication built by Backx.
