Europatat Meets Czech Potato Association to Discuss Sector Challenges and Opportunities

Insights from Europatat’s Visit to Medipo Agras and the Future of Czech Potato Industry

This week, Europatat, the European Potato Trade Association, had the pleasure of meeting with its member, the Czech Potato Association (Český bramborářský svaz). The visit was an excellent opportunity to discuss the current needs and challenges facing the Czech potato sector and to witness firsthand the activities of a prominent family business in the industry, Medipo Agras.

Medipo Agras specializes in importing and multiplying seed potatoes, as well as trading and packaging ware potatoes. During the visit, Europatat representatives toured the facilities and observed the packaging of freshly harvested Czech early potatoes. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into the operational aspects and quality standards upheld by the company.

The discussions between Europatat and the Czech Potato Association focused on several key issues affecting the sector. These included the impact of regulatory changes within the European Union, the need for enhanced collaboration between potato growers and traders, and strategies to improve the sustainability and profitability of potato farming in the region.

Vlastimil Rasocha, who organized the visit, emphasized the importance of such meetings for fostering a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by the Czech potato industry. He highlighted the critical role of seed potatoes in ensuring high-quality yields and the necessity of addressing logistical issues to streamline the supply chain.

Europatat expressed its gratitude to the Czech Potato Association and Medipo Agras for their hospitality and for facilitating a comprehensive overview of the local potato market. This collaboration underscores Europatat’s commitment to supporting its members and promoting the interests of the potato trade across Europe.

The insights gained from this visit will inform Europatat’s ongoing efforts to advocate for policies that benefit potato producers and traders. By addressing sector-specific challenges and leveraging opportunities for growth, Europatat aims to strengthen the potato industry’s resilience and sustainability.
