The agricultural sector of the Komi Republic is shifting toward accelerated import substitution of seed stock and expanding production capacities for year-round vegetable cultivation. During a meeting at the Public Chamber, regional Agriculture Minister Sergey Yeldin announced the delivery of 20 tonnes of elite seed potatoes within 2026, laying the foundation for a full-cycle production inside the region. According to Komiinform, the development strategy also includes the creation of a full-fledged seed breeding center by 2030, alongside modern vegetable storage facilities with a total capacity of 5,200 tonnes.
To support these new capacities, the ministry is bringing at least 50,600 hectares of land into agricultural circulation in the current season. A key tool for intensifying production will be the construction of a specialized energy complex worth 600 million rubles, which is expected to reduce industry-specific costs by 60% and fundamentally change the economics of greenhouse farms. The anticipated effect of these new technologies is an additional 1,200 tonnes of vegetables per year. The final stage of modernization will integrate all capacities into a single system capable of monitoring food supply from the laboratory to the counter.
