A Kaliningrad agricultural enterprise has received the largest insurance payout in the region—exceeding 292 million rubles—following the destruction of its potato crop due to waterlogged soil. According to the press service of the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, prolonged rainfall in November 2025 led to a regional state of emergency. Stagnant water was observed on the company’s fields across the Nesterovsky, Ozersky, Gvardeysky, Slavsky, and Gusevsky districts, resulting in the loss of more than 1,700 hectares of potatoes. The payment was made in full by RSKhB-Insurance JSC after the submission of all required documents; the recipient of the funds has not been disclosed.
Sergei Prostatin, CEO of RSKhB-Insurance, commented that excess moisture and even short-term water stagnation create oxygen deficiency in the soil, suppress organic decomposition and nutrient absorption, and lead to root rot, ultimately reducing yields. He emphasized that with the increasing frequency of natural disasters, agricultural insurance—including state-supported programs—has become a vital tool for the stable operation of agribusinesses. Notably, one of the largest potato producers in the Kaliningrad region is the agricultural group Atlantis, which in 2025 planted 3,100 hectares in the Ozersky, Slavsky, and Chernyakhovsky districts and is currently building storage facilities and a french fry production plant.
